General questions about Solar Energy

-close panel-

Is solar worth the investment?

Our goal at Creekside is to be honest and transparent with you to determine if solar is a good fit for your specific needs, which includes evaluating the profitability of a solar array as a money-making investment.

How long does it take to install solar?

As you may expect, every system is different. Larger systems take longer to install than smaller ones. But as a rule of thumb you can figure one week plus 25 kw per week. So if you have 75 kw system, figure one month from deployment to power on.

How is solar energy stored?

If an off grid system is needed, then the solar energy is stored in batteries. Otherwise the extra power is sent to the electrical grid.

Does Ohio/Midwest receive enough sunlight for solar?

Northwest Ohio has an average of 4.2 hours of sunlight per day. This is adequate to supply power to a solar array and is figured into the sizing requirements.

Cost & Return on Investment

What factors determine my solar array cost?

The amount of hardware required for the size of the system (solar modules, inverters, wiring, racking etc), the time and equipment needed to install the system, surveying, civil work (preparing the area for the array), permit costs and engineering costs.

Are there any tax incentives available?

Yes. The FTC Tax Credit allows for 30% of the cost of the array to be applied as a tax credit. It is wise to consult a tax specialist before applying the deduction.

Will my solar system actually give me a positive ROI?

Virtually every system will have a return on investment at some point. Creekside Solar will help you understand the amount of time until your investment is cash positive, BEFORE we start.

How much does maintenance cost for solar systems?

All systems require maintenance, but most is nominal mechanical checks. The electrical maintenance will require a licensed electrician if service is needed, that will be quoted at the time of the service. After a storm or damage, each system should be inspected to ensure that it is still operating efficiently.

How long do solar systems last?

Each system should be expected to last for 25 years or longer.
